Arrest Warrants for Top Honduran Military Officials

The Google Alert that said Honduras' top military brass (including armed forces commander Gen. Romeo Vasquez Velasquez) were charged with abuse of power seemed really interesting when it arrived in my inbox this morning. The nation's chief prosecutor issued arrest warrants for six top military officials who were involved in removing deposed president Mel Zelaya from power and shuttling him off to Costa Rica.

Then I went to one of the major Honduran newspapers, El Heraldo, and saw they weren't covering the story at all. Bias is a big part of that, but it's also important to note that the Supreme Court has to approve the charges before any action is taken against the generals. That's the same Supreme Court that ruled to remove Zelaya from power and told Congress Zelaya could only be reinstated if he first stood trial for charges pending against him.

Holding your breath until they get formally indicted is not recommended.

Looks like it's a front page story in El Heraldo:

they are heros and patriots I pray they are not prosecuted.

zelaya's intentions were claro.

under the tutalege of scumbag venezualan dictator pineapple head chavez he was laying the groundwork to destroy the constitution of Honduras and make himself president for life.

oZero tried bullying that proud little country and luckily they did not bend. typically of bullies they only go after those they percieve as weak, as evidenced by obummers ass licking of the iranian regime he's afraid of dealing with.

zelaya needs to do the world and honduras a favor, take a .22 behind the ear for the team.

Rumcrook, let's be a tad more realstic here.
a) there were no heroes in this "uprising / coup" in Honduras except for the citizens that suffered.
b) Though I strongly dislike Zelaya for his big head and narcissism, I also think less of the military brass who took advantage of a feeble democracy.

The only bullies are the corrupt politicians and business men/ women who wanted to control Honduras for their benefit. Open your eyes.

if the military took advantage why didnt they install themselves as the rulers?

why did micheletti ( from the same left of center party as zelaya) take interim power when handed to him them step down in a peaceful transition of power?

really the only bullies are citizens of honduras? what ever their social standing?

not obama who sided with a potential dictatorial thugzelaya, who had the help, money and illegal meddlings of chavez the biggest meddler and wanna be bully of latin america?

really? you cant see chavez as a bully or obama?

but you can see citizens of honduras who dont want their country distroyed or to live under a dictatorship bullies? just becuase illinformed ill educated easily duped people wanted to support a fantasy of leftist dictatorial utopia and got hurt in the process doesnt make other hondurans "bullies" when someones EXISTANCE is at stake they can be capable of some ugly things. war is hell dont think for a minute this wasnt a low level civil war. some lost some won. and in my estimation the right side won.

thier are none so blind as those who will not see.

Me, too. I am gobsmacked -- and cautiously optimistic, and taking back some of the uncharitable thoughts I had about Hillary. Interesting to watch this story from Brazil, whose major media is unbelievably biased. I imagine none of them will point to this as a quiet victory for Brazilian diplomacy, but it probably is, at least in part.

Brazil should be ashamed for meddling into this countries constitutional practices is disgusting. Watching them try to force a would be dictator onto a free republic after he had been legally deposed was shamefully. It is sad as they try to claim the high ground while attempting to blackmail into betraying their constitution. This is flat out shameful states craft, worthy of America during the cold war. What "cold war" does Brazil use to mitigate its perfidy ?
