Republican U.S. Presidential wannabe John McCain is doing pretty well in the primaries but he shouldn't expect any love from Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who is accusing him of lying about Cubans torturing American prisoners of war in Vietnam. At a campaign stop in Miami last month, the Arizona senator told anti-Castro exiles that American POWs held with him in Hanoi were tortured by "a couple of Cubans."Fidel has publicly said that he would love to see a Clinton/Obama ticket.
"His accusation against the Cuban revolutionaries ... are completely unethical," Castro wrote in an article published by the ruling Communist Party newspaper Granma.
"The commandments of the religion you practice prohibit lying," he said of McCain, who was raised an Episcopalian and calls himself a Christian.

Well, I guess we'll have to see this "record" McCain cites. But if we believe him, then we have to doubt that the “Cuban” interrogator subjected McCain to waterbording (or for that matter, to any of the McGill sensory deprivation techniques the CIA uses on detainees) because it would have left him clueless and at the mercy of his interrogator, who would have no interest in telling McCain anything about Cuba.
Cuba's entire strategy was to bog the U.S. down elsewhere so that they don't have enough resources to invade island. So it's highly doubtful that an interrogator let it be known that he was from Castro's Cuba.
And politically, McCain should be careful not to push this envelop to far, lest it boomerang back with a debate on sensory deprivation. There’s a lot of evidence to demonstrate that the McGill techniques are physically more damaging and qualitatively more sadistic than the crude techniques no doubt used on McCain. Remember, “we don’t torture.”
I’ll bet McCain drops it.
