Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez has asked Pope Benedict XVI to apologize for remarks made last Sunday about converting indigenous people to Catholicism during the colonial period. Said Chavez (who claims he is of the Christian faith): “With all due respect your Holiness, apologize because there was a real genocide here and, if we were to deny it, we would be denying our very selves.”
