Mexican Consul General: Border militias not helpful

Mexican Consul General in San Jose Bruno Figueroa tells the Mercury News that border issues should be handled by the U.S. and Mexican governments, not civilians and self-styled militias or "Minute Men". (Mercury News)

Figuroa is right on the money here. Border vigilantes taking the law into their own hands are dangerous and unhelpful for cooperation between the two countries. The underlying cause of immigration is poverty. Therefore, the Minute Men might be most effective if they start campaigning against the US agricultural subsidies that keep countries with cheaper products from entering our markets.
